VUWSA Executive Nomination Form

VUWSA’s fundamental core principle is for students by students.

Our mission is to represent and advocate for students across a wide range of issues by providing representation at some of the University’s highest decision-making bodies.

VUWSA are looking to elect the 2025 Executive in this election. These are paid roles ranging from 10 hours a week.

Criteria and eligibility requirements are covered by Part 5 of the VUWSA Constitution.

My nominators understand that they are supporting my nomination and that they do so freely and willingly. They accept that their name will be public as part of the nomination process. I understand I need two current students to support my nomination, I can't be either of them and their details are below. To be an Officer for VUWSA you must meet the legal requirements: https://www.charities.govt.nz/ready-to-register/need-to-know-to-register/officer-information/ You can not be an undischarged bankrupt or under 16. For a complete list see the link - by agreeing below you agree that you are none of these things. To run for the Postgraduate position, I understand that I must be a currently enrolled student in Postgraduate study at Te Herenga Waka. For all roles other than the President or Co-President roles, I understand that I must be enrolled in trimesters 1 and 2 of the year for which I am elected to be eligible to stay in the role. If there are issues with my nominators or my enrolled status this may invalidate my nomination.

Candidate Information

Candidate updates 1. Candidate photos a. You can have your photo taken almost anytime prior to the closing of the nominations, just email communications@vuwsa.org.nz to organise a time. b. Yes you can take your own; i. Photos: (using something similar to NZ passport requirements would be optimal - https://www.passports.govt.nz/passport-photos/how-to-take-a-passport-photo/ 2. VUWSA Executive and Staff who are running for a position on the executive. a. The VUWSA Exec and general members of Staff running should not use their positions to advantage any candidate. If you feel something unfair is happening, you can raise the issue with the returning officer. b. That being said, as members of the VUWSA Exec and/or Staff, they have certain opportunities other students will not have, and therefore it is appropriate to clarify some rules for candidates to follow, as well as set some guidelines for VUWSA. It needs to be absolutely clear no candidate has VUWSA's endorsement. 3. Candidate briefing a. If there is a candidate briefing, these details will be emailed to you after we receive your nominations, generally, for the main elections, the briefing is just after the close of the nomination period, we do not always have them for by-elections. 4. Candidate debate a. There will be a candidate debate in the Hub for the main elections, but not for by-elections. Photo and Blurb deadlines and limits will be sent to you in your nomination acknowledgement. There isn't much time so you might want to get them ready before you apply. Normally the blurbs and photos are due no later than 30 mins after the close of nominations without exceptions. Relevant rules for candidates: - Election Candidates performing any public duties for VUWSA shall not use their duties as a platform for promoting their campaigns. This is especially true of any activities that involve public speaking in person or on video. - As a general rule VUWSA places limits on candidates that are existing executive members or staff during the election period. The objective is to maintain fairness and VUWSA will use executive and staff who are not running in promotions; -Election Candidates shall not use the VUWSA logo on any of their promotional material, physical or digital. Election period: - Candidates are welcome to start their campaign whenever they wish, the campaign and promotion period includes the voting period. Limits on campaigning: This is not exhaustive, just to cover off a few wee things: - Please do not put promo material on University walls, pillars etc. This annoys key University staff and they in turn annoy us and we don’t want to have to annoy you. Notice boards are the place for you to live your best life, plus the usual place for banners in the HUB or elsewhere (of course if you get permission from someone from the Uni to put something someplace then that should be ok) - Be fair with the spaces provided, don’t touch or cover other candidates posters, if there is not enough space or someone has too many posters, then talk to the returning officer, and they will bring balance and fairness back. - Don’t use the VUWSA logo on your material, we like you, but we don't like you that much (or rather VUWSA doesn't endorse any candidates.)
