The Halls Committee is a place where elected representatives for each hall can raise issues and give opinions on behalf of fellow residents. It’s all about empowering students in halls to have a voice and ensure student welfare and engagement is prioritized.

There are two Representatives per hall, with the exception of Uni Hall which has three: One for Whānau house, Pasifika Housing and Uni Hall in general. The Halls Representatives are elected at the beginning of each year and meet at least four times during the year.


The areas of focus of the Halls Committee include, but are not limited to:

  • Quality of accommodation in Halls

  • Quality of pastoral care within Halls, including

    • Quality of catering in Halls

    • The co-creation of positive and supportive Hall environments

    • The condition of Hall facilities

    • Concerns with the running of Halls

  • Mechanisms for Dispute Resolution and Critical Incidents

  • Welfare within Halls

  • General concerns as they arise

The following Halls of Residences are represented in Halls Committee:

  • Boulcott Hall

  • Capital Hall

  • Everton Hall

  • Helen Lowry Hall

  • Joan Stevens Hall (one general representative, one representative from Marina floor)

  • Katharine Jermyn Hall

  • Te Puni Village

  • UniLodge – Stafford House

  • University Hall (Including one representative from both Pasifika Haos and Whānau House, and one general representative)

  • Willis St – Cumberland

  • Willis St – Education House

  • Victoria House

  • Weir House

  • As well as any additional halls that Victoria University may develop or manage in future.
