So you want to get a Community Services Card?

Who’s eligible for a Community Services Card?
You are, if you’re:
16 or over
either:
a New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident, or have/applied for refugee or protection status.
Normally live and intend to stay here.
Community Services Cards also depend on your income, if you’re earning over a certain amount you won’t be able to receive one.
However, if you’re studying, you’re likely not to be earning over that much anyway.
Step One
Check your eligibility for a card! If you’re earning the Student Allowance, or a series of other benefits, you do not need to apply for one (they’ll just send you one), but they won’t if you’re just getting a student loan.
Step Two
You’re eligible? Great! Next, you need to fill out this Community Services Card form.
Step Three
To prove your identity, you’ll need two forms of ID.
Two forms of government-issued ID: birth certificate, driver’s license, firearms certificate, residency visa or passport.
OR
One form of govt-issued identification: (the above) and one of the following: tenancy agreement, pay slip, bank statement, power bill, school ID card or similar.
Step Four
The above forms of ID need to be copied, and these copies need to be verified as true copies by a solicitor, Notary Public, Court Registrar or Justice of the Peace.
Our Kelburn Campus has JPs present at the Info Ihonui, Level 2, Kelburn Library entrance on Thursdays, 12-1pm.
If you click “View Service Desks” in the above link, it’ll filter the list of JPs to just those that you can pop in and see, rather than getting an appointment.
Step Five
When all that is complete, send the form to:
